BY THE POLO POND

Why would I try

to live in there?

That place is crumbled

That place is bare

Held by my height

Held by my hair

Ask me to mumble

but you don’t care

I’ve been crying by the polo pond

My dream’s all wrong—

there’s nothing that moves

Separate the boy out from my lung

slip from my tongue

You’re all I can lose

Why would I try

to live in there?

That place is crumbled

That place is bare

Held by my height

Held by my hair

Ask me to mumble

but you don’t care

I’ve been crying by the polo pond

They drink in the sun

while I weep with you

Separate the longing from my love

Fight to stay soft

I’m all I can lose

(And I don’t want you, and I don’t need you

And I don’t want you, and I don’t need you, no)

Why would I try

to live in there?

That place is crumbled

That place is bare

Held by my height

Held by my hair

Ask me to mumble

but you don’t care

Hold my own mind

Hold my own stare

Keep where I’m humble

Keep where I care
